As an integral part of its socio-cultural mission, the University of Guadalajara (UDG), the University of Guadalajara Foundation in the United States of America (UDG Foundation–USA) and the Guadalajara International Film Festival produces, sponsors and foments cultural events in order to benefit the fast-growing Mexican and Latin-American communities in the US as well as the American audience in general.
Another aspect of its mission is to promote Mexican and Ibero American cinema, reason why it has sponsored film events such as: Los Angeles Film Festival, AFI Fest, Palm Springs International and Los Angeles Latino Film Festival.

In order to increase support for the arts and culture, in 2011, through cinema, they began to showcase a selection of the best films featured at the Guadalajara International Film Festival. The first presentation of films was produced in collaboration with the American Cinematheque in Hollywood, and was called Cine Mexicano / Mexican Cinema / FICG (Guadalajara International Film Festival).

IN 2012 the Muestra de Cine GuadaLAjara was presented at Universal City in Los Angeles. In 2013 the third edition of this initiative acquired its definitive name FICG in LA.

This year the FICG in LA 6th edition will be held from October 7 to 9. The goal of the festival is to increase access and visibility of the Mexican and Latin American cinema; facilitate the exchange of ideas through storytelling and major issues concerning society; create a link between industries and Mexican cinema; foster new collaborations between filmmakers and strengthen the presence of the Mexican and Ibero American cinema in the United States and the world.

FICG in LA is presented by the Foundation of the University of Guadalajara in the United States and the Ministry of Culture, being the University of Guadalajara, the International Film Festival in Guadalajara and the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) the main sponsors.
