FICG in LA History
The University of Guadalajara (UDG), the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) and the University of Guadalajara Foundation in USA (UDG Foundation-USA), as part of their cultural and social missions, have been producing, sponsoring and promoting a wide variety of cultural events for the benefit of the growing Mexican and Latin American communities in the US.
As part of this commitment they produce, among other events, the largest Spanish-language book fair in the U.S, LéaLA, to encourage reading and promote Spanish-language books, and recognize the Latino population, their culture and customs.
They have also sponsored relevant film events like the Los Angeles Film Festival, AFI Fest, Palm Springs International and the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, in its quest to promote Mexican and Ibero-American cinema.
To further expand this support to the arts and culture through cinema, they began in 2011 to present a selection of the best of the Guadalajara International Film Festival. The first film showcase was produced in collaboration with the American Cinematheque in Hollywood and was called Cine Mexicano / Mexican Cinema / FICG (Guadalajara International Film Festival) in Los Angeles followed in 2012 with the Muestra de Cine GuadaLAjara in Universal City. In 2013, the showcase was given its definite name of FICG in LA and celebrated its 3rd edition.
The 5th edition of FICG in LA will take place on August 27 to 30, 2015.
The goal of the festival is to increase access and visibility of Mexican and Ibero-American cinema; facilitate the exchange of ideas through storytelling and socially relevant themes; create a bridge between film industries in Mexico, the U.S and Canada.; spark new collaborations among international filmmakers and strengthen the presence of Mexican and Ibero-American cinema in the U.S., as well as in other parts of the world.
